NS 5526
Local power awaits their next assighnments at the depot in Chamblee Ga as a south bound Airport bound Marta train passes to the side with my father at the helm. My father worked the Marta rail system since it was built and saw many changes around the Atlanta area and has since retired. He retired in April of 2008. The Marta rail system is a complex system which when being built, Marta officails turned to then Southen railway for pointers on train control systems. Marta uses CTC and ATS for it's operations and is standard guage also. At this point of the double tracked Marta line, Max speed is 70MPH between Doraville station and Peachtree where the line crosses over I85 beside the Amtrak Peachtree Station. Often my father would pace NS trains and have a horn blowing contest with them. Of corse, Sometimes he left them in the dust. He would also run neck and neck with Amtrak's Cresent which seemed to amuse the Amtrak engineer.

Jim Matuska General I take it your Dad was / is an engineer for MARTA? I was in Atlanta once for school. The Georgia World Conference Center. The track went right below the place! Talk about a distraction from the class! I spent all my free time sitting in the parking lot watching trains! 8/28/2008 12:45:37 PM
