AMTK 2031 (edit)
While I was going through the CD of horrible Ritz scans, I also found this one to be really bad, yet previously uploaded in unedited form, so I decided to limit my humiliation and upload an edit of it too. Getting to the original shot, I still don't remember how I got it. I probably wedged the camera against something and hoped for the best. The film was only Kodachrome 200, so it would have been a difficult shot to get. The reason that it was my first-ever shot of an Acela Express had to do, in fact, with the inadequate light in Philadelphia 30th Street, as this is New York Penn at the end of my journey (before changing to the Empire Service).

Tom Beckett General This is actually not a bad scan. The lighting is about as good as you're going to get in Penn Station, and I have no doubt you braced the camera against a post. I've often done that in poor lighting conditions when not carrying a tripod. Don't knock Kodachrome 200. When it came out, it was a big step up from K 64, which aside from the slow speed, was a really good film. My stuff from the 1980's still looks as good as the day I took it. K 200 was a godsend at two stops faster, but with the grain characteristics of K 64. You could use Ektachrome 400, but it tended to bring out the blue, and sometimes would get bluer over time if not stored right. You did good here, with a good film. 12/16/2020 3:35:48 AM
