Conrail commuter #5511         
A Conrail westbound local pulls up to the eastbound high platform. Passengers could make a cross platform change here to train #1812, the "Scoot" to Bayonne, a short lived service that ran from 1967 to 1978. Prior to 1967, CNJ trains had all run up the CNJ main to Bayone, and on to Jersey City. Then came the Aldene Plan, which included the purchase of the GP40Ps (painted in B&O blue), and a change of route, with trains heading east of here up the Lehigh Valley to Newark, and then on the Pennsylvania in to Penn Station. GP40P 3680 was was delivered 10/1968, and was rebuilt into a GP40PH-2 by Conrail.

Tom Beckett General Home page 09-04-2016. Good to see one of those units in its original configuration and paint. That whole area has changed dramatically since NJT took over. As frustrating as it must have been to work on and ride those trains for those who did it daily, I miss the "baling wire and tape" existence of NJ railroads in that time. Even ten years after NJT started up, you knew what road you were on. Now, it all looks the same-and the CNJ is nothing like the high density road it was in Cranford. 9/4/2016 3:38:09 AM
