CB&Q GP7 226
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad GP7 226 on the East End Way Freight at Naperville, Illinois on April 1, 1964, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in September 1951 (c/n 14690) on EMD Order 5072, it bewcame BN 1582 and was retired in September 1983. This is the paint scheme the GP7's were delivered in, nicknamed "blackbirds" by the local crews. It would soon exchange this paint for the red scheme, nicknamed "redbird" appropriately enough. It was equipped with a steam generator, and at the time of this photo, the intake and exhaust were covered with steel caps painted to match the roof color.
