Interlake Steel Bottle Train
In April of 1981, the Interlake Steel bottle train is seen passing through Dolton, Illinois. Led by a rebuilt Conrail GP8 (CR 5449), the train is heading west on the Indiana Harbor Belt where it will turn north onto the former Pennsylvania Railroad Panhandle line. As seen on the far left and far right side of the picture, the diamond where the Pennsy crossed the IHB has been removed, severing the Panhandle at Dolton Tower.

Tim Huemmer General Interesting view. I always wondered when this happened. This gives a good view of how the transition was made. Thanks for posting! 3/28/2010 9:50:57 AM
