Passing the southbound train   Contributor's Pick!
On our northbound leg, we passed the southbound train at Saranac Lake Station, where there was a passing siding. The section of the railroad from Lake Clear Junciton over to Lake Placid was in poor shape; it had been a branchline over to Lake Placid, and was laid with lighter rail than the mainline, which continued north at Lake Clear Junction toward Malone, NY. Of course at that time, the old M&M north of Lake Clear Jct. had been lifted.
