SLRS 9
A restoration in progress is this former US Army switcher, built in 1942 by Alco. Purchased by SMS in 2009 from the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad, it is to be restored to active service to do what it was built to do, switch freight. The president of SMS as well as several employees were once workers on the NHIR and operated 9 on the ex-RDG branch, hence their decision to purchase and restore the historic engine.

Nick DeRenzi General So is she going to be an actual running in service steam locomotive and do freight service on the NH&I? 10/11/2011 1:50:23 PM
Chad Hubler General no, she'll be working for SMS Rail down here in my neck of the woods 11/13/2011 9:46:57 PM
Paul Koprowski General From what I heard, the reason SMS acquired 9 was because quite a few of the employees once worked on the NH&I in the 1970s and 1980s, including on this loco. 11/14/2011 11:07:49 PM
