Fred Stuckmann General Really cool shots Bruce, thank you. 4/15/2012 10:02:28 PM
Randall Miles General This is not a Pacific, or a4-6-2. It is the first Mohawk, 4-8-2, purchased by NYC in 1916. 10/15/2012 2:36:08 PM
Bruce Phillips General Thanks for the correction, obviously this is not a Pacific, typo on my part. 1/14/2013 1:41:28 PM
Tom Beckett General Cool shot. A 4-8-2 anywhere else would be a Mountain type. On the NYC, not so many mountains-recall, their marketing line for passenger service was, "The Water Level Route-you can sleep," a direct slap at the Pennsy's mountainous route across PA, and their somewhat less than gentle train handling. Thus, the 4-8-2 on the Central honored the Water Level Route, being named after one of the main waterways it followed, the Mohawk River. 5/25/2022 3:38:23 AM
