Bryan Smith	General	Notice the missing ballast under the track at the short hood end of 211. This was the remnants of a "Cattle crossing" that was being taken out. It was basically a mini bridge about 6 feet long. Slates were built going away from the crossties to create an area trains could pass through but trackage that cows would not pass over. This area on both sides of the track was one big field with cows in it. There was another cattle crossing about 1/4 to the left of this photo. Bottom line: Cows would not step across the cattle crossing due to notning under the ties and I guess they didn't trust themselves to step on the ties. Days gone by.....	7/25/2014 11:01:06 AM

Ethan Button	General	All of the Southern/CofG units that came before the GP38s (so GP35/SD35 and before) were all built for SHF operations (and marked that way). Southern just experimented with trying to run a unit that was built for SHF LHF. This lead to multiple experiments that you can do a quick search for. Southern 211 was an ex-CofG GP35. I have been told that a quick way to determine if a Southern unit was ex-CofG or ex-Southern was that ex-CofG units were set up to run short hood forward while ex-Southern units were set up to run long hood forward. Note the small block near the end of the short hood end of the frame on the 211 indicating the forward end. I am told this means of identification applies to Southern/CofG GP7's as well
