|You would think UP 5697 is having a bit of a identity crisis here. It's got the the road number of an AC44CCTE but the radiators of a GEVO. So you'd think it's an AC44/45CCTE, a whole new kind of AC44 locomotive! Actually, UP 5697 is one of is one of five pre-production GEVOs (numbered 5695-5699) ordered by Union Pacific. Simply put, 5697 is one of the very first GEVOs ordered by UP and, along with several other units (ordered by UP and BNSF) that look like this, marks the start of GE's GEVO series! Here, the unit trails on the Global 3, IL to Oakland stack train (IG3OA) as it rolls through Davis.
