Birmingham Terminal Railway  Contributor's Pick!
BHRR Northbound Taconite Train BH-1 General rumbles through East Thomas, Al. on their way to Flint Ridge for delivery to U.S. Steel, BNSF delivers the taconite to BHRR at East Thomas Yard where BHRR comes with interchange, usually taconite empties & sometimes general freight for BNSF, the BHRR retrieves taconite loads that go to U.S. Steel. BNSF runs these taconite trains as U-KEEBIR & U-SEMBIR, sometimes an empty coal train gets delivered as a U-EOLBIR & gets loaded at Ensley or Birmingport & gets sent back north to Eola, Illinois loaded with coal, its an unusual move where coal goes north loaded, but usually runs south loaded & north empty

Curt Beal General Nice to know that U.S. Steel has a plant left in Alabama. They seem to be struggling lately. I like the colors of the engines. 6/30/2014 11:25:53 AM
Gary L General Better get your shots. Conversion of Fairfield to electric furnaces means this traffic dies completely. 6/30/2014 11:56:18 AM
William H. Davis Jr. General The colors are bland to me, but it's something different & fairly new, I wish BHRR would've left these in their former BNSF predecessor schemes myself, I also like that the power is EMD, sometimes they still run the old former BSRR GP38-2's & still in BSRR paint, I like that they change around the power for variety, but usually they use these WAMX SD40-2's since they can pull more tonnage & with more ease than the GP38-2's 6/30/2014 1:23:47 PM
Fred Stuckmann General It would take 4 GP38-2s to equal the power of 3 SD40-2s, nice shot. 7/1/2014 10:16:15 AM
William H. Davis Jr. General Yes, & 4 is how many is used when they use the GP38-2's when they pull the taconite loads 7/1/2014 10:27:31 AM
