CRIP 4-8-4 #5000 - Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific  Contributor's Pick!       
This was the first 4-8-4 Northern type locomotive built by Alco-Schenectady in 1929 for the Rock Island RR. According to a note written by photographer Floyd L. Paige(?) on back "Rock Island No 5000 4-8-4, fast frieght (sic) type & largest engine road owns." Specifics - Class R-65a, Specifics - 69" drivers, 250 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, 434,000 lb engine weight, 66,620 lb tractive effort. No date or location given for this photo and it appears to be a later, very contrasty reprint.
