| Another close look for those thinking about building a model of one of these WSOR units. This unit came to the WSOR in 2002. The loco was originally purchased by the Rock Island in 1972 as the 4793, part of the 4790 - 4799 order from EMD. The unit then became ICG 6043 after the Rock liquidation. After the ICG, the unit became EMDX 6043 before going to the WSOR. This unit was one of only 10 SD40-2's the Rock ordered new. I have conflicting dates regarding when this order was made by the Rock. An older locomotive roster from the early 1980's by Kalmbach Publishing indicates 1972, but the book "The WSOR Story" gives the original purchase year as 1973. |
