St Clair Tunnel Co 0-10-0 #600 Camelback  Contributor's Pick!
Here is a true historical older photo reprint that came from the Burton Historical Collection. According to the info on the back, this unit was built by Baldwin in 1891. Wikipedia lists the St Clair Tunnel between Sarnia, Ontario and Port Huron, Michigan as the first full-size subaqueous railroad tunnel built in North America, 6,025 feet (1,836 m) from portal to portal. Steam was used until 1907 when the tunnel was electrified to reduce smoke emissions in the tunnel itself. Spedific from the back of the photo - 22x28 " cylinders, 165 pis boiler pressure, engine weight of 173,100 lb and a tractive force of 37,637 lb. Definitely an unusual locomotive to say the least! No exact date was given so an approximate one was used. A wheel configuration of 0-10-0 for Baldwin was not an option on this site so 0-10-2 was selected. "SCT" is not recognized as the reporting mark for this locomotive..
