"Altoona Shops," Pages 32-33, 1996
Here are pages 15 and 16 of a 43-page article by James J.D. Lynch, Jr., entitled "Overview Of The History And Development Of The Pennsylvania Railroad's Altoona Shops." It was published originally in the Autumn 1996 issue of "Keystone" magazine, pages 32-33. Shown here is Mr. Tony Fachet's 1984 painting called "Just Like They Were Toys." Partial Caption: "This 1984 oil [painting] was inspired by a PRR photograph which captured I1s #4408 being lowered onto the servicing pit at Juniata Shops, typical of daily activity there from WW I through the late 1950's, a 40-year span." Engine #4408 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during March of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in September of 1937, and retired in September of 1958 after 35 years of faithful service.
