UP 844 Northern and UP 6936 Centinal at Union Station
This is a rare look for us to see thse 2 units side by side. Also take note of the Amtrak 30 P42DC right next to it. I didn't list AMTK 33 to the lcoo list on this picture becasue it wasn't the subject and I didn't get it in the angle of this subject.

Jim Dodds General Largest steam loco and largest diesel loco side by side! How cool is that! And an Amtrak in the background! I wonder how many of those Amtrak passengers realize the awesomeness of what is right next to them! Great shot! Seen on the homepage! 1/24/2012 4:58:32 PM
Jonathan Vincent General Missy and Jim. 844 is not a Big Boy. Nor is it anywhere near the largest, by any measure. We'll not get into the whole "largest steam loco" discussion here. The 844 is a 4-8-4 "Northern". It IS famous for being the only Mainline steam locomotive to have never been retired, being on UP's active roster it's whole life. It's still a beautiful locomotive, even if it's not the biggest. 2/1/2012 3:50:44 PM
Mike Maskel General NICE SHOT 9/11/2013 6:05:21 PM
scott crotwell General Nice shot! 6/8/2017 9:24:17 AM
Tom Beckett General That's an interesting observation about this being a three builder photo. Not the three engines I would have guessed for such a shot!! Home page 01-21-2022 1/21/2022 3:26:53 AM
