PTC coach RIO MAMONI
Panarail Tourism Company coach RIO MAMONI was one of six passenger car that were shopped and remodeled in New Orleans for service on the Panama Canal Railway. The work was performed in and around the former Kansas City Southern diesel shop at WEST YARD by Peter Messina and his crew. This car was originally Pennsylvania Railroad 1575 and it kept this number on the Penn Central. It went to Amtrak in 1976 and was assigned number 7406, but it kept its original number until it was remodeled as handicap-accessible high-capacity HEP car 7006 in October 1981. This image illustrates how truck work was done at Pete’s shop. The 7006 came from Amtrak with disc brakes and received trucks with tread brakes from a sister car.
