NOUPT SW8 2
New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal SW8 units 1-3 were built at EMD’s Cleveland Plant in December 1953 and were used by the Southern Pacific until the new station was placed in full operation in April 1954. Here is NOUPT 2 at the Espee’s AVONDALE YARD, just west of New Orleans, with T&NO caboose 517. Notice the orange wing design on the unit’s nose. These disappeared as the locos were repainted. NOUPT 1 and 3 remained at the terminal until 1990, but number 2 was sold to Jones & Laughlin Steel around 1960.
