| For about 90 years the residents of Rabbit Island, Louisiana - 30 miles east of downtown New Orleans - had their own stop along the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. It was named RIGOLETS, after the nearby pass connecting Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne. The structure shown here was built after the previous building burned in 1934, and it remained in use until August 1962. During its final years the only service here were commuter trains 9 and 12, which ran between New Orleans and Pass Christian, Mississippi. After this building closed, trains 9 and 12 continued to stop here until they made their last runs on 6 May 1964. |
