Chuck Zeiler General According to the book, "The American Locomotive Company, A Centennial Remembrance", by Richard T. Steinbrenner, this is likely one of ten Alco RSD-20, DL-541 (Alco's specification) locomotives built for the Chilean State Railways in 1961. It was powered by a 12-cylinder Model 251B prime mover producing 1800 horsepower. It rode on lightweight Tri-Mount C-C trucks of a 12 foot 6 inch wheelbase. The height was 13 feet 1 inch, width was 9 feet 6 and 1/2 inches, length was 54 feet 6 inches, weight was 211,500 pounds, and it carried 800 gallons of fuel. Shortly after production of the Chilean order, the model RSD-20 was upgraded to Specification DL-543 with the introduction of the Model 251C prime mover, producing 2000 horsepower. 11/10/2009 5:56:59 PM

Jacob Lyman General Great photo! I lived in Argentina for two years so their motive power looks very similar to this Chilean engine. I actually lived for a time near the Anotfogasta to Salta route over the Andes. 4/12/2016 8:54:45 PM
