WWI Tunnel Defenses, Spruce Creek, c. 1917
WWI. Here is a postal card image entitled "Twin Tunnels, Spruce Creek, Pa." Shown here is a westbound Pennsylvania Railroad Class "H" (2-8-0) "Consolidation" pulling a string of empty hopper cars through one of the Spruce Creek Tunnels on a frigid Winter's day. Note the workmen clearing snow away from the top of the tunnel-entrance stonework. The photographer's name, the locomotive's road number, and the exact date are not recorded.
