SAR Class QC-3 (Side B) (Type 4)
Class QC-3 (QCJ-3) covered hoppers entered service between 1958 and 1977 and are designed to transport ammonium nitrate. They started life as Class AZ-4 open iron ore hoppers and were converted to Class QC-1 between 1986 and 1989, when the upper structures were added atop the original ore bins. This one was probably reclassified to Class QC-3 when the end ladder was replaced with a side ladder. The type 4 wagons have three hatches covering a continuous roof door opening and their ladders and roof walkways are on the B side.
