Old railroad building
Anyone know the purpose of this building?? It appears to have been a railroad building at one time. The small sign on the top of the door gives the milepost location for this line.

Eugene Cain General I am betting it has something to do with the old GS&F before Southern got control. I am asking around to try to find out information. 5/16/2012 2:52:52 PM
Eugene Cain General Apparently, this was a Signal Hut of some sort. After posting a message about it, I learned it is of Southern design and those holes you see along the top had wires coming out of them, some of them you can actually see the cut off wires sticking out. Apparently there were more of these too as one is reported to still be standing in North Carolina. So, a Signal House seems to be what this was. 5/18/2012 11:22:55 AM
Eugene Cain General That would have been an awful lot of wires!! 5/18/2012 11:24:45 AM
Eugene Cain General Now, I am told it was a Sub Station (Power House) for the 4400 Volt Power line that ran along the pole line, long since removed and abandoned probably in the 70s at some point. This seems to make the most sense now as there were more of these in different locations. 5/19/2012 11:14:59 AM
