Soon to be a 99 yr. old tradition  Contributor's Pick!
The C&W started bringing service to Harrisonburg in 1896. Madison College formed 1909 as Woman's Teacher and Nursing School. In the 60's Madison expanded across the tracks as well and opened her doors to the men. The train and JMU are like a marrige that has with stood the test of time. Today with the increase in grain traffic (lengthy trains), supplying major feed mills, some locals are wanting to have the train re-routed. There too are many complaints about the whistle blowing late at night, into the early morning hours. If your new to "The Burg" fuss to the city planners not the R.R. and remember this area is considered "The Poultry Capitol of Virginia"!

Zachary DeVore General They are still talking about that insane proposal to reroute the trains when the largest grain facility is right in the middle of town and in order to do that, the city of Harrisonburg would have to pay for a new bridge over the river at Mount Jackson??? Nice shot. 12/13/2007 8:41:15 PM
