Tom Beckett General There was a time, years ago-like 60-that this kind of thing was a common sight in NY harbor. The only lines to come into NYC proper were the Pennsy, via Penn Station, and the NYC, into Grand Central, and they also had a freight line down the west side, which Amtrak uses to reach Penn Station. South of 30th St, it's now the High Line Park. New Haven also came into NY, passenger trains to GCT, freight to Bay Ridge-not far from where you took this-via Hell Gate. All the Jersey side roads, LV, Erie, Lackawanna(later EL) Jersey Central, as well as Pennsy and NYC, which had major terminals in Jersey and used carfloats, came to the waterfront and floated their traffic to various terminals in the city.
