L523, with CN 9515 (GP40-LW) and IC 3123 (GP40R) in charge, slows to a stop in Strobe siding in Fox Crossing, WI. L523 normally completes its work unopposed on the Fox River Sub, but due to A447 being in North Oshkosh and having no work in Neenah today, a meet was set to allow A447 overtake and complete its journey to Green Bay, WI.

A CN local pauses in front of the depot/yard office at the former C&NW yard at Appleton Junction, WI, on 16 Oct. '21. Local was headed back to Neenah and had two locomotives, IC 3106 and GTW 5852. The local power, IC 3123, rests to the right. There used to be a diamond right about where the front truck of the lead locomotive rests, from ca. 1874 until at least 1968, where the MLS&W crossed the C&NW. When the MLS&W was absorbed by the C&NW on 1 Sep. 1893, their line became the Ashland Div. of the C&NW. The white building behind the depot/yard office is the former home of the Harry H. Long Moving and Storage Co., 1001 S. Douglas St., Appleton, WI. This building dates to at least 1953, when it was listed in the local directory (it was not listed in ’51). The building has a spur, but it hasn’t been used for quite a while (except for occasional MoW equipment). Now called Harry H. Long Moving Storage & Express, Inc., the company, founded in 1917, is still family owned. It moved to a larger facility in Town of Clayton, Winnebago Co., WI in 2001.
IC 3123 (GP40R) and IC 9573 (GP38-2) head north out of Neenah yard and meet a southbound M340, helmed by CN 3035 (ET44AC) and CN 2812 (ES44AC). This meet was caught from the Arrowhead Park in Neenah, WI with the Neenah Wye in the foreground.
Two Illinois Central brothers, 3123 (GP40R) and 9573 (GP38-2), work Neenah yard. I caught them from the Arrowhead Park in Neenah, WI. The "S" curve to the Neenah Wye is in the foreground and the Main St. overpass frames the photo.

The Dyersburg Switcher's engine is tied down on the coal chute as today is this job's only day off. Old heads on the Fulton District used to call these engines Thunderbirds because they were geared to run high speed and the IC normally used them for power on the pigs.
