CR 6768 heads east on a cloudy morning. Not bad for 25 ASA
Conrails ALSE, from Allentown to Selkirk, rolls 93 cars past a cement plant in Plainfield.
My trips to Jersey were somewhat sporadic, and often were tied to riding the many routes across the Garden State, and not necessarily toward catching the freight action. Im glad I rode all I could at the time-the equipment and some of the routes are gone-but looking back, I wish I had spent more time staking out the freights, which also had some interesting power in those days. I did not see many 6 axle U boats, but once in a while I'd get lucky. This one was on a freight at Kearny yard, seen from a passing DLW train between Hoboken and Newark.
This w/b was conveniently tied down across from the shopping center in Leetsdale. CR 6503 was less than two years old and still looked fresh. The main track I'm standing on was lifted not too long after this shot, around the holidays.
ALSE heads north along the Hudson between Jones Point and Iona Island. Peekskill, the birthplace of, Yes, THAT Mel Gibson, is in the background across the river.
LDSE heads norrth along the Hudson at Roseton.
