Westbound at Leetonia
Built by EMD in November of 1983, this SD50 sits in the Conway, PA, yard. After the CR breakup, this unit would become NS 5406. The color slide was taken by CR conductor Ken Taylor.

One of the pluses of living and working within earshot of the Tier was that I often would catch a train going somewhere when I got out of work. Today it was BUOI, about to pass under NY 17C. I had chased from my workplace in Owego, shot him in Campville and here, and now had a five minute trip home. Note the semaphore behind the covered hopper, 7th head car.
Theres a sharp curve at MP 230, just as the train enters Campville, and it makes for a dramatic entrance to a nothing town. BUOI rolls 60 cars through at 40 MPH as it makes its way east to its next call at Binghamton.

CR 6768 heads east on a cloudy morning. Not bad for 25 ASA
BUOI is stopped at the office in Binghamton, adjacent to the old Erie freight house. I took the opportunity to get a shot of a rare unit on the Tier, C32-8 6611. These units were almost exclusive to the River and Boston Lines, as they were based out of Selkirk. This one got to Oak Island and strayed.
A gloomy day finds a UNL train rolling north at Sayre with loads for the NYSEG plant at Ludlowville, just up the lake from Ithaca.
Unlike its opposite train, ALEN, which came in behind a pair of GP 10s, ENAL is getting some more modern units for its 116 cars as it starts across Rockville Bridge.
