Not quite backing into the woods, but one might think so. But go another mile or so on this section of the old Carolina & Northwestern, and youll be there! This is on the 1-mile operating section, known as the South Newton Lead.
Instead of going to Claremont, P95s high-hood power does its runaround in the old Carolina & Northwestern Yard in Newton on the South Newton Lead where it has its "Mill Job". This move is not possible today, as both of the outer sidings have been placed out of service.
The long-hood of this veteran High-Hood up close and personal. Doing a switching move around its train, P95, in the old Carolina & Northwestern Yard at Newton. Thats a narrow gauge boxcar that ran the line in the late 1800s, now restored and sheltered at the Southeastern Narrow Gauge & Shortline Museum that also calls that area home.
NS/Southern veteran High-Hood #5141 gets in the siding to run around its train in the old Carolina & Northwestern Yard in Newton. The siding the locomotive was on is currently out of service, so these switching moves for trains P95 and P71 must take place a few miles east in Claremont.
