As a new driver teen in the mid-to-late 1960s, I recall having to wait for the "Chug & Grunt" as it would cross Washington Avenue and Main Street on its way to the yard down by the levee at Lake Ferguson. Specific date in May is a guesstimate. Thanks to Tom Sink for the photo, as I had no camera in those days.

ATSF's bicentennial train visits Ballinger, Texas, for the city's 90th birthday on a hot June day. More than 5,000 people visited the train in the community of 3,500. Ballinger is located on the former Kansas City, Mexico & Orient line.

When the Sanderson Yard and shops were open, these were some of the friendliest folks around. If you checked it at the yard office and let them know you were around, you pretty much had free run as long as you stayed out of the way.
