These were the locos that passed by me while I was trackside at Dolton, IL, during a 1 1/2 hour visit.
In the lead of an eastbound vehicular flat unit train bound for Gibson Yard in Hammond, IN, is this Dash 9 unit #4100 along with its trailing Das 9 unit #4301 This was the first train spotted at about 1 pm. Note the tall signal bridge behind the locos, a Dolton landmark.
The lead unit breaks into the daylight after crossing Lincoln Avenue.
Trailing in the pair is this Dash 9 unit, #4301. Behind stretches a long string of vehicular flats bound for IHB Gibson Yard in the Hessville/Hammond area.
The pair of Dash 9 units contine east toward Gibson Yard on the IHB line through Dolton, IL.
The second train to make an appearance during the hour and a half visit to Dolton was this westbound manivest freight with CSX #920 in the lead.
The pair of CSX locos were heading west on the CSX mainline that runs through Dolton Junction, IL.
Lead unit in the manifest freight train was CSX #920.
Trailing the lead unit was CSX #3374 for the westbound manifest freight.
The third train to appear was headed up by this immaculate Indiana Harbor Belt loco #4016. The paint nearly glistened as it passed by with its Loram rail laying train. The loco pulled through and then backed the long string of mainenance of way cars into a slot in the IHB yard just west of the Lincoln Avenue crossing.
I don't know how IHB keeps a majority of their locos looking so sharp and clean. Always a bright spot when one of these locos pass through Dolton, IL.
The fourth train to pass through Dolton, IL during my visit was BNSF #6909 heading up an eastbound mostly vehicular flat train.
This was the second BNSF vehicular flat train passing on the IHB mainline through Dolton, IL. New cars were definitely on the move back in October of 2019.!
Sharp looking profile of the BNSF ES44C4 unit #6909.
Coming around the CSX mainline curve heading east is BNSF #4941 with its container train in tow. This is the 4th train to appear during the hour & a half while I was at Dolton, IL, on this October, 2019 day.
The pair of BNSF locos are heading east on the CSX mainline with its unit container train behind.
Nice view of the lead unit #4941.
The lead unit passes by me and continues on east with its container train.
The 6th and last train to pass by me in the hour and a half visit was CSX #519 heading east with it mixed freight train. Six trains in an hour and a half - not bad!
