UP's daily Roper (Salt Lake City)-to-Denver manifest climbs east up the last of Thompson Hill in sqring 2001, with a backdrop of the Book Cliffs. This was a dream come true--13 years after the Rio Grande disappeared into SP, the 'Grande main line hosting a pure set of D&RGW power on whe desert.
UP LUH45, the 'Dirt Train', works upgrade on the cormer D&RGW Sunnyside Branch with loads for the ECDC Environmental landfill ahead.
D&RGW SD40T-2 5385 rests between assignments on a sunny evening in August 2000 beneath the Book Cliffs.
Three Rio Grande Tunnel Motors accelerate east out of the siding at Wellington, UT, headed for the Sunnyside Branch with the 'Dirt Train.' The train was one of the last regular assignments for these units.
