More CP action on their Chicago to Twin Cities mainline, focused near the east end from Watertown to Milwaukee. This is one of the busier rail lines in Wisconsin and the only one with regular Amtrak service. Some days it seems like all you see is CP's red, widecab GEs, but patience and luck will yield a wide variety of classic and colorful diesel power.
487 highballs the junction bright and early on Sunday morning.
Train No. 283 westbound. CN trains seen at this location can be found in the album "CN Waukesha Subdivision."
Welded rail is laid out ready to be installed, but for now westbound trains still clickety-clack through here.
As the westbound clatters across Duplainville Rd., this eastbound manifest highballs through.
All these cars parked on Marjean Lane along the CP tracks belong to railfans. The crowd was about to get bigger, as the white van crossing the tracks at left would pull in and await the next train as well.
This power was thrown on this train at Milwaukee and sent back west less than two hours after we saw it with an EB manifest with the AC4400CW CP 9552 leading. This is the first time I've seen an SD60 leading a train after they spent most of 2009 in storage.
1 1/2 hours late, #8 screams toward the diamonds.
Just over an hour after the late eastbound Empire Builder came through here, its WB counterpart blasts through right on time.
6433 and a DME unit are on the near track, 6434 with a CSX unit coupled to it are on the second furthest track.
On the left track a westbound manifest is rolling by. A single NS C40-9W powered that train.
Westbound unit ethanol train No. 665, naturally bright, early and straight out of the sun.
The fellow railfan at left is a Duplainville regular.
The driver got out and set up a green sign trackside to mark the end of a temporary speed restriction zone.
All westbound trains crossed over to the south main, as a crewless WB was parked on the north main to the west all day.
Eastbound unit grain train 398.
Patience pays off...the only one of "those" type of lashups on CP came after most other railfans had gone home for the day.
