Santa had lots of helpers for this run of the daily local up the Manchester Subdivision to Atlanta
Just across Georgia Road 85 from this location lives someone who knows Santa very, very well :)
Most years, Santa Claus served as the engineer of his "Santa Train". However, in 1983, Santa was "rolled" the day before Santa's Train was to run which allowed him to ride the caboose from Manchester to Atlanta
With a wave to the crowd at Franklin Street, Santa's Train departs for Atlanta

The paint is so fresh on UP 5964 and trailing unit, UP 5965, that I thought I was in the paint booth. No insects or dings on the front of this brand new unit today!!!
CSX C40-8 #7500 was built May 1989
UP 8139 (SD9043MAC) and fellow unit CSX 7500 (C40-8) have been pulled into the clear on a normally unused portion of track M-04 in the CSX middle yard and tied down awaiting the call to head north to Montgomery. All of the tracks in the foreground have now been ripped out and replaced with new rail, ties and ballast to support local yard operations in Dothan, AL. And, needless to say, the weeds are long gone now as the newly rebuilt middle yard is heavily used in 2009 operations.
An amazing set of local power in use in the former L & N (now CSX) yard in Flomaton, AL
This BNSF B40-8 of Santa Fe heritage sure looks odd in extreme South Alabama
HLCX SD40M03 #6516 was built September 1968 as Seaboard Coast Line SD45 #2014, re# Seaboard System/CSX #8914, VMV #8914 and MKCX #9518
In extreme southwest Alabama, just feet from the Florida state line, in former L & N country, sits a pair of very unique foreign line locomotives being used as power for the locals based out of Flomaton. Most amazing!
CSX GP40-2 #4448 was built January 1980 as Conrail #3391
GCFX SD40-2 #3076 was built May 1971 as SOO Line SD40 #751 and later became Canadian Pacific #751
Seaboard System #765460, an American Diesel Electric crane assigned to maintenance of way service, had a weight of 216,700 pounds
A pair of hundred ton cranes for a track machine appear to be overkill. When decision makers are hundreds of miles away from the action, this is the result
The cranes are setting the track machine on the House Track located adjacent to the former Passenger Depot. Just to the right, out of the photo, piggyback trailers were loaded, circus style, at the Dothan Piggyback Ramp
CSX SD40-2 #8838 was built October 1978 as Conrail #6462
CSXT 8838 and lease unit CEFX 3135 (SD40-2 rebuild in SD45 shell) tied down in the middle yard at CSX Dothan, AL awaiting call to power northbound local to Montgomery, AL on the Bow Line
HLCX 6073 (SD40M-3) was built as Missouri Pacific SD40 #764, then re# MP 3064
An SP "Speed lettering" rebuilt unit, SP 8652 is obviously a former SD45. While the paint job has seen its better days, it is a welcome site in southeast Alabama
2004 saw a seemingly endless parade of foreign line visitors to the CSX Bow Line between Montgomery, AL and Waycross, GA. Today, we find BNSF C44-9W's 4840 and 790 tied down in the CSX Dothan middle yard awaiting the call to power the northbound local to Montgomery
Union Pacific SD70M #4931 has just returned from Saffold, GA with the CIRR interchange, one box car of which is in the background.
CEFX 3143 was built December 1966 as SD45 #ATSF 1867; then re# ATSF 5567; then re# ATSF 5348; then re# MKM 5348, the rebuilt to SD40-2 standards and entered lease pool
In the middle 2000 years, foreign line and lease power provided a great daily variety show. Sadly, in 2009, those days are a distant memory
Assigned to Dothan for shoving moves to and from The Bay Line interchange approx. 2 miles from this location, this caboose sits unused as the crews simply didn't want to make the extra switch.
CSX 7921 is former LMS #703, built August 1994
CSX 7921 being used this week as local power on the Dothan, AL to Bainbridge, GA turn
B40-8 CSX 5945 tied up in front of CSX Dothan yard office
CSX 8338 being used this week as power for Dothan, AL to Bainbridge, GA turn
CSX SD40-2 is former Conrail #6405, built August 1977
CSX 7371 (C40-8W), Q545-03's power, tied up for July 4th holiday in CSX Dothan yard
"Leave valve in automatic position at ALL times!", and "Valve responds automatically to water formation by sputtering frequently" on label with clear evidence of tank discharge below valve
CSX 7777 (C40-8W) tied up in middle yard at Dothan, AL
