Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 5129 at Saint Paul, Minnesota on September 7, 1932, photograph by Paul E. Parrish, print by Don Gruber, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 5129 was built by Baldwin in May 1922 (c/n 55459) and sold for scrap in November 1960. At an undetermined date 5129 was converted to burn oil.

Description:  Milwaukee Road 4-6-2 6335, date, location, and photographer unknown, print from Heier Industrial Photo, Chuck Zeiler collection. I guessed at the location based on the Schlitz signage. I purchased this print on one of the CB&Q steam fan trips from Greg Heier. If anyone has any further information, please leave a comment. Number 6335 was built by Alco-Brooks in June 1912 as CM&StP 1557 (c/n 51333), renumbered in September 1912 to 6335 class F-5, became CMStP&P 6335 in 1927, renumbered to CMStPP&P 818 in September 1938, retired in April 1952.

Description:  This once was a busy travel hub. The depot was torn down in the late 1970s, serving Amtrak for a few years. The BNSF has a mainline to the left that remains today for its Wazata line. At its peak this depot saw 125 passenger and mail trains daily serving the GN, NP, CB&Q, CNW, and CGW.

Description:  The CPR still runs the hump and shops in St Paul. UP operates the CGW yard to the right, and the BNSF has an auto rack unloader to the left. That is a CB&Q Burlington Route steamer 1 mile before the St Paul Union depot. The BNSF and CPR share the two double mainlines from St Paul to Chicago today, even some UP trains. The water tank on the left was for the CBQ. The stack on the right is the Milw engine house that remains working today. UP Belt yard is to the right. Photo taken from Warner Road bridge used today by cars.

Description:  The Milwaukee Road had a large 360 degree full roundhouse next to their South Minneapolis yard at Hiawatha Ave and E 26th street. Minnesota Commercial still serves the grain elevators along Hiawatha ave in 2022. Minnesota Commercial still uses the Milwaukee Road shortline bridge in Minneapolis to cross the Mississippi River.

Description:  This was taken near the end of steam during the transition period. For a while diesels worked along side and with steam. During the fall grain rush some steam engines were pulled out of retirement up to 1958. SD9s survived on the BNSF up to 2011, and some will continue to serve as slugs.

Description:  NP B-20 at Saint Paul, Minnesota on an unknown day in November 1957, Kodachrome by Dick Rumbolz, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number B-20 was built by Saint Louis Car Company (body) in 1929 (c/n 1512), powered by EMC with a Winton Model 146 gasoline engine rated at 300 horsepower (c/n 410). It was converted to diesel electric in March 1947 and retired in December 1961.
