Eastbound mixed freight from Minot with 11 units
As soon as I pulled up to the parking lot across the street from Union Station there were two trains about to meet. This was the only one I was able to get a clear shot at.
BNSF 4992 in third position from the north... pretend this is in focus - between rain on the lens and a gust of wind trying to knock me over while shooting in the dark, Id beg for a little leeway.
BNSF 4992 as three-of-four on mixed freight elephant-style northbound - and demonstrating how close I am to ALMOST being under the protection of the 39th Street overpass from the weather. Instead, Im in the perfect place to catch both the rain AND the large drips coming off the concrete above. Sometimes youre lucky... other times, youre me. But Im not complaining! All that sun from April to November was worth it, I dont want to sound ungrateful, Im just a little awed at how easily those huge drops of cold water manage to hit that tiny little opening between coat collar and the back of ones neck.
K042-31 rounds the curve west at Langhorne with NS ES44AC 8100 "Nickel Plate Road" leading an NS ES44AC and BNSF C44-9W. This is the second time this unit visited Philly, and in better weather this time around!
K042-16 cuts westbound through the rain at Woodbourne Station just after 9:30 PM with NS ES44AC 8100, the Nickel Plate Road heritage unit leading NS ES44AC 8088 and BNSF C44-9W 4992.
This was a empty Oil train headed back to the Dakota's for topping off. This is the first Heritage unit i've seen. Believe it or not, this area here was 4 mainline tracks wide during the New York Central Era, reduced to just 1 now between CP10 and CP22.
