The lead units of the grain train roll away, passing one of Siloams water towers as they head south.
The grain train splits the signals at the north end of the Siloam Springs siding, its train stretched out a mile plus under Cheri Whitlock Blvd toward Davidson Rd.
The grain train now moves into the siding as the northbound blows for the crossing at Kenwood St, out of sight a half mile or so to the south.
The train has now moved into the interlocking, and will take the siding. The 261 is on its way up the main, note the signal is now lit.
The approach signal at Davidson Rd meant a stop board here at North Siloam, and the train is holding out north of the signal, waiting for a meet with the 261 train. Hell be here 45 minutes before pulling down into the siding, his train stretched out over a mile behind him. Hell block Country Club Rd, but thats about all.
Theres another steep climb coming up out of Sleepy Hollow, which taxes the southbound loaded trains. After getting the shot at Gentry, I was able to get ahead far enough to see the signal was at approach, and the train had not yet come around the curve at the base of the hill. The next jump would be a lot less frantic.
I wasnt able to get ahead of the train by Gentry to get a good set up, so not quite the long lens shot I wanted here. Still did OK. View from the Ark 12 overpass.
The line through Decatur is on a steep grade going south, so its usually not much of a challenge to get ahead of a train. I got about a mile south of the prevous spot downtown to get this more scenic shot across a pasture. Pretty sky
The current retro Belle scheme compares to the old scheme as the grain move passes the stuffed and mounted F 7 at Decatur.
Wed just come back from Wal Mart, and in the process of unloading the weeks goodies, I heard a horn. I quickly got the stuff in the house and took off. Turned out what I thought was a northbound wasnt, but I sometimes dont catch up to them right away, since the northbounds are usually lighter trains, and can get a good roll on. So, I went to Decatur, hoping that was the case, and Id catch it. When I got to Decatur, the signal was lit green for a southbound. Ill take it. At least I didnt waste the trip. A KCS Belle leads 125 cars of grain south.
