Amtrak ALC-42 #302
The attempt to tow both 58 and 390 combined aborted, 58's string of cars was tacked onto 390 and it continued on north. The power though, was moved to the West Pass track north of the yard office to await its fate. #8825 will likely be picked up by another CN train and #302 by another Amtrak train.
Surprise, the Charger on #58 unexpectedly crapped out south of Memphis and a CN freight unit had to be summoned to rescue the crippled train.

Welded rail yields little audio clues - earbuds or headphones for joggers/cyclists HAVE resulted in fatalities. One youngster lost his life crossing the tracks just south of here - spawning these neon green signs!
Itza NO HORN ZONE - trains on welded rail CAN sneak up on you!
This is technically the first train I've caught on the line under CPKC operation.

Two of Amtraks brand new ALC-42s rest in the yard at Seattle. Amtrak 302 and 303 have only left the factory months before, and have become regulars on the Empire Builder run between Chicago and Seattle. These units will also be introduced to other Amtrak services across the country, and services like the City of New Orleans and California Zephyr are in the process of equipping with the new locomotives. These are the second and third ALC-42s I have photographed, but they will certainly not be the last.
