CP train 413 passes what was once the north end of Dyes siding-the decommissioned signal mast can be seen in the trees above the first car-as it gets into the last mile before entering Belden Tunnel.

WABH 11 is on the DLW bridge over the Chenango River as BUAB, a grain train for the Port of Albany, crosses the river on the adjacent Erie bridge.
Though it could also be corn. KL 1 holds for 84 car BUAB to clear the Buffalo Runner. It will then roll down to QD and get on the Tier for the trip to Buffalo.
One of the irregular but frequent trains was BUAB, a loaded grain train that went to the Port of Albany to be loaded on ships for export. One of those trains reflects the late afternoon sun as it passes Hiawatha Rd on its way to Binghamton and a crew change with 84 cars to go north.
After running on the PA side since Narrowsburg, a necessity due to the lack of places to site a right of way on the NY side for the Erie at the time it was built, NTV 4 crosses the well know Mill Rift bridge across the Delaware, landing it back in NY at Sparrow Bush. It will shortly be in Port Jervis.
NTV 4 crosses the Lackawaxen River at its namesake town as it heads for Jersey.
An eastbound Sea Land train, NTV 4 on Conrail, rolls along the Delaware at Cochecton. This was a good spot for trains running either direction, as it was right on NY 97, and had good views both ways.
A GATX lease unit leads 51 cars of train 309 under a full moon at QD as it heads for Buffalo. The former DLW station tower is seen to the right.
There was a small trailer park on Conklin Road, almost adjacent to the CP engine house. Sometimes you could get a shot here if mothing was parked on the runners, such as on this day. A wide variety of equipment could be seen. Todays view has a PLM unit, a few CP units, a D&H lightning stripe GP 38-2, and a leftover from steam days, an old tender. whose purpose I do not now recall. The ex DLW yard tower can be seen at far left.
A matched set of CP SDs roll train 310 into East Binghamton in the gloom of an April day. The "Dual Flag" scheme is still a year in the future.
A second view of 555 rolling north on the Reading Line at Belt Line Jct, this view showing the Reading signal there.
Train 555 rolls through Belt Line Jct behind a trio of SDs with 63 cars.
NY 10 rolls across Starrucca, momentarily breaking the tranquility of Lanesboro.
Its almost sunset as NY 10 rolls through Kirkwood, headed for the Delaware valley darkness. This same power set would return a couple days later on SLN 5.
Train 255 passes the former Erie station at Canisteo as it comes out of the valley. The station was being leased by Agway at the time. A year or so later, Agway was out, and Conrail would demolish the station.
SLN5, 255 on CP, rolls around a curve in the Canisteo valley, allowing a good view of the valley and train.
A 253X train-there must have been a lot of Sea Land stacks that day-approdches Gang Mills, meeting 310, on the adjacent track, in the process.
Train 255 passes one of the classic Erie semaphores still prevalent in the Canisteo valley.
Train 255, the Sea Land train, runs 75 platforms along the Canisteo near Cameron Mills.
CP leased power from PLM and GATX in the early days of the CP operating the D&H. Heres power from both leasors on a coal train rolling 106 cars west.
Train 270 rolls past the Morrison Knudsen plant at Hornell. Once Erie and ELs sprawling facility here, it now makes and rebuilds transit cars for a number of operators, including NYCTA, whose cars are a common sight on OIBU and BUOI.
Train 270 rolls past the feed mill at Arkport as it heads forHornell and Binghamton
In some places, the valley is 1000 feet from the river to ridge top. This is one such place, just west of West Cameron, where there is not room for tracks and road on the river bank. The road was built on the other side of the river at this point. From that location we see 270 roll east beyond a field of hay bales.
CP train 270 passes the relay case for CP Horn, once known as ZY on the Erie and EL. The train will ride along the Canisteo River for the next 30 miles, one of the most scenic places in the east. Part of the old yard can be seen at left.
The Southern Tier Line west of Hornell was double track to CP River, roughly where the old NT tower was on EL, where the River Line to Olean split from the Buffalo Sub. Under Conrail, it had a dual personality. Track 1 was fairly well maintained, and good for track speed of 40 MPH. Track 2, on the other hand, was not. It had about 10 miles of 25 MPH running, the rest 10 MPH. It was jokingly referred to as the "D&H Main," since dispatchers faced with a choice of running a D&H train on track 1, or a Conrail train, would send the D&H train down track 2, making for a long trip to Hornell. Train 270 had good luck this day, and got the fast track. Seen here passing the semaphore pole-about 7 cars from the head end, on the left-at Hunt with 11 intermodal and 36 freight.
A container train rolls past the commuter station at Dorval
Near Dauphin on the Buffalo Line
The Erie station at Canisteo lasted into the early 90s. It was an Agway dealership in its last incarnation. When that closed, it was demolished by Conrail. Here we see D&H train 255 passing.
In a scene unlikely to be repeated anywhere else, CP train BUAB crosses the Chenango River late in the day on the ex Erie bridge, while CR local WABH 11 works on the ex DLW bridge with a U23B.

Train 270 heads east at Canaseraga behind a pair of CP SD40-2s. Note how the tracks spread about 7 cars deep in the train. There was once a center siding here.

Power for the 416 to New York City.
I believe this was the leader on the CP 416 to NYC.
Southbound D&H train 555 with CP Rail power eases past CR 6048, waiting to go west with their train
Normally CP would leave their power sit on the Freemansburg IT, but today I witnessed CP power sitting in the PBNE Yard. This was taken from the New Street Bridge.
Idle power in the CP Binghamton Yard
D&H 258 pulls down the back end of the yard while D&H 510 sets up on 1 Runner and D&H 164 awaits a crew on 2 Runner.
