Fellow contributor Max Smith and I predicted that we would have ample sunshine today, and so we made a plan for a Finger Lakes chase. We followed the train from Geneva to Camillus, and then from there we fanned the NYS&W. Here we see them rounding the bend next to the state prison in Auburn.
Last year the Finger Lakes railway began leasing these "bluebirds" and now regularly use them on there GS-2 train..........aka the sweep train. Here we see them descending the grade at Martisco as they work their way toward Solvay yard. As you can see they're on welded rail here; at a point not!far west from here the rail is jointed all the way to Geneva. Historically speaking this is the Auburn Road, and it's one of the oldest railroads in the USA. A long time ago there wsed to be a branch from here to Otisco; if you look hard enough you can trace the line still to this day.
FGLK GS-2 slowing rolls through Seneca Falls.
KCS 4596 trails BNSF 5456 on CSX military train W86225. It's tied-down on the Belle Isle siding here before going north to Fort Drum. I heard the "bluebird" lease engines are going to the Finger Lakes RR soon.
The 2 FECX leasers setting in the middle and the NYS&W 3802 and the NS 8102 made the yards quite a colorful spot as the american flag gentlly flaps in the breeze
