A loaded coal train tops the hill at Belmont
Most of the time, when I come up this far, I shoot at Goodman if the sun is workable, or at McElhany, since its easy to reach and often there are meets there. Just south of McElhany is Rhonda Rd, which it turns out has a pretty good open shot of a northbound. So I learned a new place today.
I got out of Noel quickly, wanting to check the shot at Ginger Blue. The sun wasnt far enough around to light the west side of the bridge, so I bagged that and headed for Anderson. I was able to get this shot of the train passing the old station, now city hall, and the park adjacent. Good place to stop with the kids.
The conductor on the northbound heads back for his train after giving the southbound a roll by. They will head north again shortly.
The southbound coal train, led by a BNSF unit, heads toward a meet with the northbound empty, "swoosh" units leading both trains.
The northbound is to meet a southbound coal train here at Noel, and is laying back south of the crossing til it gets close.
The next place I was able to get a good shot of the empty coal train was between Dorsey and Gravette, a good spot, but you have to hustle to get there, since northbounds are mostly emtpy trains, and move right along. Here he comes out of the shadows about to cross Mt Olive Rd.
After I got the southbound at Siloam, I followed the empty TXUX train north, catching him here from the Ark 12 overpass in Gentry as he is about to capture Bulbasaur.
The northbound empty train rolls up the siding. In the distance, we can see the loaded train holding short of the Main St crossing. It will pull down as the empty pulls up. KCS is pretty good about not blocking crossings in town when they have a meet. I have occasionally been startled to see a train sitting just south of Lake Frances Rd in Siloam, waiting for a southbound to get into town.
I started out this day on an errand. As I completed that task, I heard a horn, which turned out to be a northbound empty TXUX train. I was not able to get it in Siloam, but I did get to Gentry in time to set up on the Ark 12 overpass just in time to catch it approaching the south end of the siding there.
