The Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad still exists, running from Conneaut, Ohio (on Lake Erie) to Penn Hills, Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh). Canadian National acquired the railroad in 2004 but operates it as a subsidiary.
B&LE 901 started life as Southern Pacific 9232 in 1972! Here it is in SP colors: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=5337673
I had seen this on a prior trip to Fond du Lac, but it was buried too deep in the yard for me to get a good shot. No such problems today!
Two Bessemer and Lake Erie units, far from home rails, return light north across W. Scott St. and into Shops Yard in Fond Du Lac, WI. Though I cant be sure, I believe BLE 910 (SD40-3) and BLE 901 (SD40-3) were returning from helping a southbound train up and over the fabled Byron Hill.
