A crew member approaches the beautifully restored New Hope & Ivyland 2-8-0 Consolidation #40. This was the first steam loco purchased for the tourist line and is still on the operational roster in 2025. Built by Baldwin in February of 1918 for the Lancaster & Chester RR at the cost of $25,125.96, it bounced over to the Cliffside RR before being purchased for the New Hope & Ivyland torurist line. This is a color slide taken by rail fan Jim Lockart and is now part of my colleciton.
This loco was the first steam locomotive purchased for the New Hope & Ivyland tourist railroad back in July of 1962. It was originally built by Baldwin on 12/2/1925 for the Lancaster & Chester RR. When the LC retired their steam locos, it moved over to the short line Cliffside RR. When the Cliffside RR retired their steam loco, it was purchased for the New Hope & Ivyland RR where it is still on the operatiional roster there for pulling the tourist trains. This is a Jim Lockart color slide now in my collection.
