PGR 40, the other two PGR Northfield residents (just visible behind the 40), and a PGR ex-Soo Line ballast hopper sit beneath partly cloudy skies on Memorial Day 2025.(Photo not taken from railroad property.)
Progressive Rail's ex-Minneapolis, Northfield, and Southern SD39 was still at Northfield as of Memorial Day 2025. Still no word on whether or not PGR will reactivate this gem. I hope they bring her back online sometime soon!
A view of Progresive Raill's Minneapolis, Northfield, and Southern golden oldies SD39 through the trees (photo not taken on railroad property, btw).
My buddy Andy and I found Progressive Rail's ex-Minneapolis, Northfield, and Southern SD39 sitting in the south end of the yard, where she's been for some time due to a mechanical issue. I sure hope PGR gets her back up and running soon.
The front end of PGR #40 sure looks classy. The name is now "Progressive Rail", but the look and feel of the units famed previous owner, the Minneapolis, Northfield, and Southern, remains strong.
I came all the way to Northfield with the goal of seeing Progressive Rail #40, the famous ex-Minneapolis, Northfield, and Southern locomotive that is plying home rails again between Northfield and Lakeville after a stint on PGR's Wisconsin Northern. Here the veteran unit is idling at the Northfield yard in company with CBFX 3805 (just visible at left) on a gorgeous April afternoon.
Finally back on home rails.
