MAC throwing out a nice cloud as #QHKNP assaults the grade...
DPUs on #QHKNP30...
At the north end of Union Pacific's Dolores Yard is CP Alameda, where some of the power lays over awaiting assignment. Unlike southern California's other railroad, BNSF Railway (which operates a steady stream of GE power in the area), EMD power is no stranger to the Union Pacific in the L.A. Basin. Here we see SD70M 3790 and SD90MAC 8200 resting between runs on March 29, 2011. (The UP calls these SD90MACs "SD9043AC" rather than sticking with the EMD designation.)
The light power off UP Train MNPKCB 20 heads to UP Neff Yard after dropping off its train at UP 18th Street Yard.
Auto train.
On the UP Overland Route we see a 3 pack of SD9043AC's heading up UP Train MNPPC 26 climbing into Cheyenne on its way to Pocatello, ID.
In transit on its way to the Illinois Railway Museum

Just when we were expecting the crew to back the power up to the train at any moment, they turned the headlight off! We gathered from the scanner talk that something was wrong with one of the locomotives, and a crew van arrived a short time later to help repair it.
Roughly EMD's equivalent of the Dash 9, this is another large, modern, high-horsepower locomotive that is a rare catch on the WSOR system.
Eight units!!! Three C40-8's, eour AC4400's and a SD90MAC lead a mixed freight west.
