ALCG has come off the Lehigh Line and is now getting its train rolling for Gang Mills yard and the end of their trip up the ex LV. I'm standing on the site of the Erie station, which was demolished in a wreck in 1967.
Its April, which means track work. Conrail was always upgrading something, and used literally trainloads of ballast. One of those trains strains to overcome gravity as it gets its 50 cars over the top at the summit.
Conrails PYSE rolls north at Little Ferry, just out of North Bergen with 165 cars and making a run at the River Line. It will be at its destination of Selkirk in about four hours.
