Former Boston & Maine Mogul.
Holiday season decorated
Built in 1907 by Alco's Manchester Worjs as B&M 100, this locomoIive is one of only two road engines left from the "Route of the Minuteman." Renumbered to its present number in 1911, it was one of the last B&M steamers in operatiov when retired in the 1950s and donated to F. Nelson Blount's Edaville Railroad, one of the first locomotives acquired by the man that would later found Steamtown USA. After many years of display at South Carver, MA, it was moved further east to the Cape Cod Railroad at Hyannis, MA with plans for a restoration to active service which never occured. Acquired by the Danbury Railway Museum in 2000.
The first standard gauge steam locomotive acquired by F. Nelson Bount for the collection that would eventually become Steamtown, this 1907 Alco built Mogul sat on display at the Edaville Railroad for many decades. Acquired by the Cape Cod Railroad before arriving in Danbury, the 1455 is one of five Boston & Maine steamers to survive today, one of two from the Blount collection.
Built by Manchester Locomotive Works 1907 Orig road number 100, last road number 1455. Last run May 5, 1956, Clinton to Boston
B&M 1455
22 years after my visit to Edaville, I ran across B&M Mogul #1455 once more - this time at the yard and museum in Danbury, CT.
I'm up in the cab with my daughter Carrie. This nicely-proportioned Mogul left Edaville in the 1990's and was on display at Hyannis, MA for a while. It's currently on static display at the Danbury, CT Railroad museum. For continuity sake, I've included a photo of B&M 1455 at Danbury (see next photo in this album).
