CN Train 562 approaching Brookfield Road grade crossing - now with CN 5641 on the point.
Not a lot of trains, and not much sunshine, but still...CN Train 562 had me hopping after I first bumped into it delivering freight cars to Trillium Railways small yard at Feeder Road. After trying (and failing) to catch up to Trillium's old ALCO #108 at Dain City switching a really long string of tank cars, I set myself up to catch 562 coming back, with pics at Brookfield Road grade crossing, and White Road grade crossing.

Mixed freight heading out of Battle creek
CN through freight crosses the former grade crossing at W. 8th St. and S. Pierce Ave. as it pulls 57 cars northeast via former C&NW rails at Appleton, WI on 3 Aug. '14. Train was headed to Green Bay from Stevens Point and had two locomotives, CN 5798 pulling and CN 5641 pushing. The train would have been hidden behind the historic Pierce Manufacturing plant that occupied this city block from 1917 until it was razed ca. 2010-12.
CN 5641 pulls train A415 out of Green Bay on its way to Stevens Point. The train operates in a push-pull mode; sister 5798 is at the other end.
The trail unit of a CN Stevens Point to Green Bay train idles on former C&NW rails on the siding at Stroebe, WI on 27 Jul. '14. Train had two locomotives, CN 5798 pulling and CN 5641 pushing. The 40-car train halted at the northeast end of Stroebe siding, to wait for a local which was dropping a string of cars at Appleton Junction. For some reason the trail unit uncoupled from the train and ran back to the southwest end of the siding, seemed a little unusual. The western approach to the Roland Kampo Bridge over Little Lake Butte des Morts is in the background.
EMD and GE power combine to move a general freight compass direction south out of Neenah. The train is moving right along on former Soo Line right of way that was spun off to the modern Wisconsin Central. The Soo Line had gained this right of way by absorbing the original Wisconsin Central. Neenah Foundry is seen behind the train and sits along the former CNW (now also CN) mainline in Neenah.
Heading general direction south, out of Neenah. The track to the right was the former CNW line to Green Bay thru Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, Neenah and the other Fox Cities. The CN train is running on the former SOO right of way. (Original Wisconsin Central) Both rights of way eventually ended up as part of the modern Wisconsin Central before being sold to CN. The mill complex to the rear is Neenah Foundry (plant 2). Plant 2 is now the only Neenah Foundry plant in Neenah, plant 1 was razed quite some time ago.
CN through freight emerges from behind the historic Tuttle Press Co. factory and approaches N. Lawe St. as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Appleton, WI on 1 Jul. ’14. Train was headed from Stevens Point to Green Bay and had two locomotives, CN 5641 pulling and CN 2136 pushing. The factory dates to 1905, it later operated as Artfaire and finally as Sulpaco West, Inc. For nearly a century this facility produced a variety of renowned specialty papers: napkins, table covers, tissue, craft paper, paper dolls, gift boxes, crepe paper, and especially gift wrapping paper, until Sullivan Paper Co. shuttered this plant on 27 Jun. ’02 and moved production to one of its other facilities in Mass. Since then it appears to have been used as storage for one or more local businesses. The spur used to serve Tuttle Press, Luvata (formerly Valley Cast), and Appvion (originally Appleton Papers), only the latter is a current rail customer.
The rear unit of the Green Bay to Stevens Point train passes a Norkolf Southern powered train waiting in the hole at Stroebe. The 5641 is the rear unit pushing past the waiting train towards Neenah where it will change direction and head towards Stevens Point without a run around move. This run and operation was originated by the modern Wisconsin Central.
The tail end of the morning Gren Bay to Stevens Point train crosses Stroebe Road. Didn't catch the lead unit.
CN through freight pulling 120 cars overtakes a local halted on the siding along former C&NW rails at Milepost 211, adjacent to W. Butte Des Morts Beach Rd. at Stroebe, WI on 15 Jun. ’14. Through freight was headed from Stevens Point to Green Bay and had two locomotives CN 5641 pulling and CN 8947 pushing. Local had a very friendly crew hauling 26 cars for Appleton, Little Chute and Kaukauna.
