Norfolk Southern SD60 6566 and C39-8 8615 lead westbound train No. 193 through Metairie on the NS BACK BELT. The train originated at Birmingham, and the NS will deliver it to the SP at the east end of the Huey P. Long Bridge, about a mile away.
SP Houston-Birmingham run-through train HOSOM waits at the east end of the Huey P. Long Bridge for a route onto the NS Back Belt. In eight miles - at Milepost NOT 7.6 - the train will become NS No. 194. Today's power is NS C39-8 8615, SP SD45T-2 9257 and SP SD45R 7503. The covered hoppers on the front of the train are GWIX salt cars that were picked up from the Louisiana & Delta, and are on their way to Olin Chemical at Cleveland, Tennessee.

There were 7 locomotives all hooked up waiting on the NS mainline. At the IHB and NS junction, there was track work, so these were stopped. If only I had gotten there aboot 5 minutes sooner.
