A reminder from Amtrak's early days on the Morristown & Erie Vornado Spur.

Morristown & Erie Vornado Spur
Amtrak train 281 northbound at Manitou. Note the difference in side panels between the 486 and 488. the 486 was the only FL-9 with the stripes located in the higher position relative to the rest of the fleet, and the 488 was the only uniw with the large "Amtrak" on the side. Note ALSO they are running back to back, "elephant style" was more the norm.
A pair of FL-9's, running back to back as God and EMD intended, takes train 63 northward at Cold Spring. Paired FL-9's, often as not , were run "Elephant style.
